Episode 29: Cool Casting, Unintended Consequences, and Breaking News from California

It’s been a busy last couple of months.  And it’s cold and snowy–perfect weather for casting!  We’ll talk about that.  Looks like I’m about to go through 200gr, .45-caliber “boolits” like politicians go through money.

Then, we have some breaking news, as of February, from California.  Can you believe it–the Ninth Circuit Court actually ruled in favor of California gun owners??  Yes, it’s true!  And the antis are definitely sucking on lemons right about now.

Next, we explore a little case of “Unintended Consequences”.  An anti, who advocated for more gun restrictions like the New York UNSAFE Act, just got arrested…under one of the very laws he was advocating for!  This case shows the futility and even craziness of such laws.

And finally…for those of you who keep saying, “IT CAN’T HAPPEN HERE!”…think again.  It happened to an American Citizen.  He’s going to tell you about it.

As always, this is all very serious business.  Rights are like that.

Episode 28: God, Guns, and Religion!

We do a lot of talking about guns this time. The first segment talks about my initial impressions of Ruger’s new SR-45 semi-automatic pistol, chambered for the .45 ACP cartridge. This is part of their polymer-framed (i. e. “plastic”) SR-series. So far, I’m about 350 rounds through this pistol. Good thing I handload for this cartridge–factory ammo’s expensive!

In the second segment, we discuss the politics of religion and what happened with Virginia’s recent Gubernatorial election, from a Liberal perspective. How did a con-man like Terry McAuliffe win? And no, the answer isn’t necessarily what you might think.

The third and fourth segments focus on revolvers. We talk about five types. Please understand, every gun we talk about here on the Liberal’s Gun Corner is one that I’ve actually spent a fair amount of quality time on the range with. So, you will hear that perspective. There are two S&W’s, one Taurus, and two Rugers.

One slang expression for a firearm is the word “heater”. Well, this episode not only discusses “heaters”, it also is likely to get some folks kinda “heated”. Just be forewarned.

Episode 27: A Recent Election, Armed Veterans, the Antis, and Range Etiquette

We’ve got plenty to talk about this time, folks. Let’s see here…first, there was a recent election in Virginia, an election where the antis won. We’ll talk about why that happened, from a non-Republican, and pro-2A Liberal, point of view.

Recently, an Army Veteran was banned from her disabled daughter’s school, it appears because she got her carry permit (a lawful act) and was encouraging others to lawfully do so. We’ll discuss that, too. Should this be happening?

Last year, right after Christmas, I had encountered the Code Pink folks doing a protest at a gun show. I had done a counter-protest, but I couldn’t find anything showing our interaction. Thanks to Rhett Rhebold over at “Story of America” (http://www.storyofamerica.org), we now have it. You will hear both sides of the argument, theirs, and mine.

And finally, we discuss something near and dear to my heart: Range Etiquette. Thanks to listener “Have Blue” for this suggestion. With all the new gun owners, this matters, so we won’t be “stealthy” about it. 🙂 Range Etiquette really does matter, folks.

I hope you all had a happy Thanksgiving. Regardless of your religious beliefs (or not), every day is a day to give some thanks…even if it’s just for being alive that day. Since we’re coming up on the one-year anniversary of the terrible massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary, I think this point takes on an especial importance.

Episode 26: Handloading for the Rossi 92 Levergun in .357 Magnum

Last time, we talked about the “cowboy style” Rossi 92 lever-action rifle,, with the 16″ barrel, chambered in .38 Special and .357 Magnum.  However, as the antis have liked to say for years, “no ammo, no guns.”  Even though ammo availability is coming back now, let’s face it:  .357 Magnum ammunition has never been exactly cheap.  So, we’re going to talk about how to handload for this little Rossi rifle.

Of course, this info also applies to any other rifle chambered for the same round–your Winchesters, Marlins, Henry’s, Ruger’s, and so on.

For those of you who hand-load already, here are some levergun-specific tips ‘n’ tricks to look out for.  If you don’t yet hand-load, do consider it; you’ll be able to enjoy that little Rossi a lot more than you otherwise would be able to.

And doggone it, it’s our right to do so!

Videos for doing this are at my personal Web site for free download, http://www.sanfranciscoliberalwithagun.com/.  Most examples show .38 Special, so they’re directly applicable to this levergun.

Episode 25: The Rossi 92 lever-action rifle, Captain Phillips, and the DHS

I frequent a couple of gun boards.  On those boards, there’ve been some folks asking about lever-action rifles in .357 Magnum.  I would like to make a case for the Rossi Model 92 for your consideration.  It’s Rossi’s copy of the classic Winchester 92 design.  It’s one of the more popular rifles on the Cowboy Action Shooting circuit, and for good reason.

Also, I saw the new movie, “Captain Phillips”, just last week.  It actually relates pretty strongly to the Right to Keep and Bear Arms.  It also kinda dovetails into something recently put out by the Dept. of Homeland Security and the Dept. of Justice, something that, as a Liberal, gives me some pause for concern.

Finally, we hear from a man named Mr. Henson Ong, an American Citizen who emigrated here some time ago (I think from China).  He is, in his words, “American by choice.”  Old-school Liberalism at its finest.

Episode 24: A Critical Analysis of Pres. Obama’s Anti-Gun Speech, “For The Children”, Part 2

This is Part 2 of a two-part series.  We are discussing and critically analyzing the rhetoric of the antis, in the form of a speech by President Barack H. Obama after the “Universal Background Check” proposed legislation failed in the Senate.

We dedicate the entire episode to looking at this speech.  We do this because we need to understand the duplicitous language that the antis use.  After the recent Navy Yard shooting in Washington, DC, the antis will try again.  And again.  And we need to be ready for it.

Episode 23: A Critical Analysis of Pres. Obama’s Anti-Gun Speech, “For The Children”, Part 1

We like consistency in our arguments around here.  That’s the only truly Liberal (note I didn’t say Democrat) way to do things.  Likewise, we don’t care for inconsistent arguments, especially when it’s deliberate.  That’s neither Liberal nor Conservative; that’s just plain lying.  And we don’t go for that around here.

Previously we took apart Atty. Gen. Eric Holder’s snowjob regarding Second Amendment issues.  This time, we take on an equally inconsistent snowjob by his boss, Pres. Barack Obama.  We need to do this, folks, because this is the same set of arguments the antis are going to use after the recent shooting at the Navy Yard.  And they’re just plain wrong.  I’m going to break it down and show you how and why they’re wrong.

This is Part 1 of a two-parter episode due to the amount of material there is to cover.

Also, I tell you what I think of Emily Miller’s recent book, from a pro-2A Liberal’s perspective, now that I’ve finished reading it.

Episode 22: Colleges and Gun Safety, Meeting Emily Miller, and Wisdom from a Cuban-American Immigrant

There are folks who say that higher education is a waste of time.  I disagree with that, but I sure wish the administrators of our Institutions of Higher Learning would make more sense.  They’re so hoplophobic that in one case, they’re even closing down popular gun *safety* classes.  Isn’t safety supposed to be..umm…good?

Also, this weekend, I met Emily Miller, who just put out a book, “Emily Gets Her Gun, but Obama Wants To Take Yours”.  We’ll tell you about that meeting.

Finally, we hear from an American Citizen who emigrated here from Castro’s Cuba some 40+ years ago.  He provides some hard-core, first-hand wisdom of why the right to keep and bear arms must not be infringed.

Episode 21: Reader feedback, Adventures in Reloading, and the Defense of Liberty

It’s been almost a year since we started the Liberal’s Gun Corner.  This is our 21st Episode.  In that time, we’ve gotten feedback from you, our listeners, and I’d like to share a few of those letters with you.  Some’s positive, some’s–shall we say–“constructive”.  That’s how it should be.  We’re not always going to agree.  That, too, is part of Liberalism.

Then, we talk about reloading!  Cowboy T has his first serious adventure with the .45 Auto (ACP) cartridge.  Thanks to a guy at the range, I now have a set of .45 Auto dies, and I’ve been having some fun with this round.  We’ll talk about that.

After that, we talk colleges and universities.  Why are they so anti?  Why do they continue believing that Victim Disarmament (VD) is somehow life-preserving?  Disarming the victims only results in dead victims.

And finally, we hear from a professor who knows first-hand what that “VD” feels like.  He tells us what his family went through as a result.
Serious stuff…as befits a serious podcast.

Episode 20: Just How Long–Or Short–Is the Path to a Police State?

“IT COULD NEVER HAPPEN HERE!”

That’s what I hear a lot from a lot of people:  it could never happen here.

What, exactly, is “it”?  Well, “it” is Lord Acton’s wise counsel that, “all power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.”

In light of the recent revelations of massive, and apparently pretty unchecked, surveillance by our government officials against their own people–that’d be us, folks–it’s high time we had a talk about something I’ve seen in my travels.  That would be what happens when government officials are the ones with all the power.

Many of my fellow Liberals really do think, “it could never happen here!  This is AMERICA!”

Famous Last Words.

The final segment includes not just anti-Constitutionalist Piers Morgan admitting that this is “bordering on tyrannical behaviour”, but also some testimony from a survivor of the Tiananmen Square massacre.  He goes by the handle, “June4th”, the date of the Chinese military crackdown that ended those student protests.  He is now a proud US Citizen and equally proud gun owner.  This is what I call, “powerful testimony” that yes, it *could* happen here…if we don’t watch it.
